The FOODPRINT project develops research on gene-editing detection in the context of traceability and labelling of genetically modified (GM) products throughout the food chain. The project is dedicated to generating scientific and technical data that can expand the knowledge base for decision-making, enhance food safety, and expand sustainability and competitiveness within the sector through the efficient identification and segregation of GM and non-GM food sources. It is also relevant for society’s ability to address the key societal challenge of making informed food choices.

FOODPRINT er et samarbeidsprosjekt om utvikling av deteksjonsmetoder av genredigering for å fremme sporbarhet og merking av genmodifiserte (GM) produkter i hele næringskjeden. Genredigering er en ny teknikk for genetisk modifisering som i dag reguleres under EUs direktiv 2001/18/EF og av Genteknologiloven. Prosjektet tar sikte på å utvikle påvisnings-, identifiserings- og kvantifiseringsmetoder som kan oppfylle EUs analytiske krav. Metodene utvikles i samarbeid med forskere og laboratorier i Østerrike, Brasil og Libanon. Et RRI-rammeverk (Responsible Research and Innovation) med aktiv deltakelse fra interessenter innen akademia, industri og forvaltning i Europa og Brasil, brukesfor å inkludere ulike aspekter i næringskjeden, fra eksportør til importørland, inkludert leverandører fra GM- og ikke-GM-næringskjeder.
